I had the opportunity to create some illustrations for a research project called The B Side of Boxing which intends to celebrate women in boxing by highlighting their voices and to make boxing more popular and accessible to all. I was asked to create 3 protest pieces surrounding the cause.
It's an Honour to Fight Like a Girl
This piece depicts Algerian boxer Imane Khelif who was a victim of a smear campaign regarding her gender identity after winning gold at the 2024 Olympic Games. This work intends to celebrate all women in boxing and push back against harmful negative stereotypes.
Equal Rounds, Equal Respect
This poster displays British boxer Chantelle Cameron who recently vacated her title in protest to not being allowed to box using the same rules as men. She demands Equal Rounds, Equal Opportunities and Equal Respect and encourages all female boxers to stand up and fight for this too.
Each Time a Woman Stands up for Herself, She Stands up for ALL Women
This protest piece includes an inspiring quote by Maya Angelou about women supporting women. This image aims to encourage female boxers to continue to be apart of such a strong community and to stand up for their peers.
